Independent Project: Starting Week 3

This afternoon I had a chat with Steve about my project, which I started by showing him the work I did on the logo and my time plan. He liked what I was doing with the logo design, but also felt that the time plan could use more detail. I will have to further break up my tasks.

We also discussed my proposal and which parts I have done so far.

When I told him that I had looked at some examples of VR games for the cultural context section, he suggested I also look for some books that discuss Virtual Reality and some of its moral implications. After a brief google search, he showed me some books I could look at, and told me that I should be able to find them on the University Library.

When it came to target audience, he said I should think about how I want to my final work to be displayed when we inevitably have to set them up. He suggested the following options:

  • Have one headset that people would have to use one at a time, with a screen on the wall to show others what the person using the headset is doing.

  • Have several headsets which a group of people could use.
The aim is to get my experience working on one headset first. If this goes well, I might expand to several headsets. I also don't think I'll want a screen on the side, and I feel that people being able to see the gallery without needing the headset would spoil the surprise. I could just have a static poster instead.

I will add these details to my document as soon as possible.
