Independent Project: 9th Feb Overview

Further developing the Cultural Context

In the discussion I had with Steve about my proposal/prospectus earlier this week, we established that I needed to add more to my cultural context, and he recommended I look at the more moral and ethical discussions regarding Virtual Reality.

Today I searched for some more sources on the university library which addressed these topics and looked at the books which Steve had shown me.

Because how long it would take to fully read each source in a time efficient way, I started by looking at their introductions, abstracts, and conclusions in order to identify their main points.

During my search, I identified a few sources that I could use in my cultural context and began writing. As of now I've only addressed one or two of my collected sources, but I intend to write about the rest of them in the coming days.

Writing the Risk Assessment

To find an example of a risk assessment I could use as a base, I searched around canvas and the university student resources. I hoped to find the template Steve had briefly showed us during his presentation last week, but I couldn't find it. Eventually I found a page on the Creative Arts toolkit that linked to a page about risk assessments. Unfortunately, the link led to a blank page, but I was able to find a slightly different page after some more searching around.

The webpage contained links to two different lists of risk assessments, with each one specialised for different purposes. In the beginning I was confused about which type of risk assessment was the most appropriate for me, but I finally decided to use the 'Office' assessment. This was because it contained a lot of relevant hazards to the spaces I was working in.

After making a copy, I went through the assessment document and removed parts that weren't accurate to the context of my project. I then proceeded to replace the blank spaces with the appropriate information. After many adjustments and changes, this was my result:

To make sure I've taken the correct approach to making my risk assessment, I will go through it with Steve next Monday.
