User Experience Design Session

The beginning of the session was discussed our ideas for our apps. Everyone had at least one form of inspiration. A couple of people cited Spotify, one person cited the chatting app Discord.

I feel like when it came to me, I could've explained my idea better. I did get my main point across, which was its similarity to Flickr, and that I wanted to focus on customisability and displaying your photos exactly how you want.

Part of this came down to the fact that I had my idea but hadn't fully thought through how I could explain this to others. As a result I found it difficult to say the right things. Considering all that though, I didn't do too badly.

Team Project Session

We started the session by doing a couple of personality tests. One was a Myers Briggs test and the Belbin Team roles test.

For the first test I got ISFP-A, which is a person with Introverted, Observant, Feeling, and Prospecting personality traits. Though there were some parts of the personality description I didn't completely agree with, overall I feel it was pretty accurate.

For the second test, it showed rough percentages of how much I fit different team roles, and Analyst seemed to be the one that fit me most.

When it came to comparing the results of everyone in the class, we all fit into a few different personality types. Out of us nine, there were about six of us who were introverted, which I personally didn't find too surprising.

When we matched the people in our team project groups with the personality types we were, it created some interesting results. The main thing I noticed was that there was two introverts and one extrovert in each group. Overall, the distribution of team roles in each group was quite wide.

We were then put into our groups to discuss ideas for our projects. We decided very early on that we would do an Animation, as doing a short film would require us all to be present, which would be difficult to get right in our particular group.

We also decided against doing a video game, as it would be very complicated and annoying to share files with each other, and one of our members wasn't that experienced with the medium.

We spent some time looking for sources of inspiration on YouTube. While some of them were by independent animators, we also looked at quite a few animations from Hertfordshire University's animation channel, where they feature the best animations their students have produced over the years.

By the end of the day, these were the main points we wrote down:

  • 2d animation

  • 2/3 minutes long

  • have the main focus on a main character

  • music - from anywhere as long as credited, background music throughout

  • use a template to create character

  • all create an idea for next week and choose one/ incorporate all ideas

  • have a beginning, middle, end and credits
