Two Visions of the Future in Media

1. i, Robot (2004)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0343818/

The movie is set in 2035, in which robots are a widespread presence and directly assist humans, with different robots specialising in carrying out different public services. All robots in the world of i, Robot universe are programmed with Isaac Asimov's three laws of robotics. The main plot of the film is propelled forwards by the murder of the scientist responsible for the robots' creation.

The movie explores themes of sentience and free-will.

The world itself isn't too different visually from our own, but I found the design of the robots to be very interesting, in particular the NS-5s.

2. Deus Ex (Game Series)

The general world of this game series has a dystopian theme.

France and the UK are considered as bases of operations for the Illuminati.

The USA is rapidly declining and rife with poverty and corruption. Corporations hold absolute power, and the gap between the rich and poor is much larger than in our world.

"By 2029, the Czech Republic has imposed strict laws against augmented individuals, and has forced them to live in ghettos such as Ăštulek Complex in Prague."

"In the late 2020s, Australia is in a state of civil war, and is divided between the Free States of Australia (FSA) and the South Australia Federation (SAF)."

Hong Kong is a main hub for a multinational company called the VersaLife Corporation and has a large  market in human augmentation technology.

This company is responsible for the creation of a nano-virus called Gray Death and its vaccine called Ambrosia, and a big part of the history of Deus Ez on how malevolent forces manipulate the production of both the virus and the vaccine to cause chaos and influence world events to their liking.

The series showcases a variety of different forms of human augmentation, such as prosthetic limbs, mechanical implants and nanotechnology. The games put forwards the idea that these augmentations can be rejected by the human body and that people have to take anti-rejection drugs as a result.

These implants enhance different aspects of the human body, and are even able to grant people superhuman abilities such as invisibility and night vision.

The two main protagonist characters that appear throughout the series, JC Denton and Adam Jensen, both possess these implants and augmentations, and you can buy different augmentations in-game to make yourself stronger in certain areas.
