Rembrandt Video [Week 3]

In this session did some more work on our Rembrandt video.

We were told to finish masking out the man from our jumping video. Since I had already done this in my own time, I took this opportunity to do a little work on my blog.

We added a 'bars and tone' and a 'universal counting leader' sequence to the beginning of the video.
'Bars and Tone' are usually used to test if the colours are correct, and a 'universal counting leader' was originally included at the beginning of film reels to assist in threading through projectors.

According to my tutor, these two elements are still included in professional work submissions today.

We added a ending title card which contained a little animation of the University of Hertfordshire logo. This had I had transferred into my project folder from Steve's drive at the beginning of the lesson.

We then added a brief credits crawl with our name and a couple of other small details.

Finally, we added some text elements to the main. It took me a while to think of how to implement this, but I eventually decided to use the expanding black circles in my video as positions where words/letters could appear.

I was having a difficult time deciding exactly what words/letters to use, so in the meantime, I just decided to spell out the word 'Title'. My intention was to keep the letters contained with the circles as they expanded.
Because the video was in one unified layer, there was no easy way to do this.

My solution was to add an 'iris round' transition to each of the letters. There was a lot of tweaking and fiddling required to make this transition line up to the expanding of the circles. This is ultimately what took up the most time.

After this was finished, I wanted to change the letters to say something more interesting. However I wasn't sure how I would accomplish this. Eventually I decided to turn the letters into a countdown. With the 0 appearing in the white circle.
