Website Theories [Part 2]

5 Things To Consider in Web-design

1. Your website should aim to be responsive to user interaction. For example, you could make buttons light up or change colour when the mouse hovers over it. Every action should have some sort of immediate consequence, either big or small depending on what it is. It is also important to communicate these consequences clearly to the user and keep them informed on their status.

2. Make sure everything on your site is easily retrievable without having to go through a long-winded process. The most important features should be easily in-reach. By making everything easily recognisable, this reduces how much information the user needs to retain as they navigate the site.

3. It is necessary to stick to certain conventions when making a website, as an interface that's too outside the box compared to the average layout can become confusing to the average internet user. Sometimes, a minimalistic approach is the best one to take.

4. Its important you provide easy ways of getting out/backtracking, in case something goes wrong on your website or the user makes a mistake of some kind, such as an 'X' button or a 'cancel' option. This gives a sense of control to the user and decreases potential frustration.

5. There should be a system in place that provides the needed information to correct errors. This should be bold, clearly communicated, and should provide the correct steps to combat whatever the problem is, making sure to avoid using complicated language that could confuse the user more. Using an image to communicate your message instead of text should be done wherever possible.
