Hannah Höch Style Collage Piece

When making this piece, I started without much of an idea, only knowing that I wanted a person to be the subject, as that's what Hannah Höch usually focused on in her artworks. Following that idea, I started by just looking at stock images of people on google.

After a little while of that, I decided that maybe focusing my piece on a particular theme or statement would be interesting. Eventually I ended up settling with a theme that focused on the idea of what's considered successful nowadays.

When making this piece I tried to deconstruct the images as much as possible, and not have one image take up too much of the screen compared to the others.

This is what the collage looked like by the end of the first session.

At this point, I was happy with a bulk of the image. The only thing I wasn't that satisfied with was the background, as even though it got the message across well enough, it just looked way too busy and I didn't really like the colours.

I had a bit more time to work on the collage in a later class, so I took out some of the elements I felt was adding unnecessary business to the piece. I decided to replace them with some colours I thought would fit it.

Final Result

I think the colours were generally pretty hard to decide on, but this is what I ended up settling on. I didn't want absolutely everything to be colourised, but I decided to leave some areas alone.
