When making this piece, I started without much of an idea, only knowing that I wanted a person to be the subject, as that's what Hannah Höch usually focused on in her artworks. Following that idea, I started by just looking at stock images of people on google.
After a little while of that, I decided that maybe focusing my piece on a particular theme or statement would be interesting. Eventually I ended up settling with a theme that focused on the idea of what's considered successful nowadays.
When making this piece I tried to deconstruct the images as much as possible, and not have one image take up too much of the screen compared to the others.
| This is what the collage looked like by the end of the first session. |
At this point, I was happy with a bulk of the image. The only thing I wasn't that satisfied with was the background, as even though it got the message across well enough, it just looked way too busy and I didn't really like the colours.
I had a bit more time to work on the collage in a later class, so I took out some of the elements I felt was adding unnecessary business to the piece. I decided to replace them with some colours I thought would fit it.
