For this session, we tried creating a walk cycle in adobe animate in a similar style to the walk cycle we made in Photoshop last semester.
To make our walk cycle, we used the top section of this base guide:
Like last time, we had to separate our figure into different layers for the head, body, front and back arms, as well as layers for each section of the legs.
Compared to the last exercise, I found it much more difficult to create my figure using Adobe Animate, especially when trying to draw the hands and feet. This was because as I found Animate's shape and pen tools a lot more uncomfortable to use, and I encountered several problems during the process with further slowed me down.
As a result of getting stuck trying to get my figure working properly, I missed some important steps that resulted in me falling behind, the main one being how to rig the figure and create bones.
Because we weren't provided with a guide, I couldn't fall back on it to catch up. After trying for some time and failing to figure out the steps myself, I looked for how to solve my problem on the Adobe Website.
I considered asking help from the tutor, but I didn't want to hold the class up too much, and I knew I would have some independent time to finish it off later in the afternoon.
After a few hours of work, this is what I ended up with:
Having completed the work, I was happy with how the figure looked. The animation I was also satisfied with for the most part. The only part that bothered me slightly was how the arms turned out. This probably has something to do with the fact that we used the bone tool for those areas specifically, which was harder to use than the tools we used to move the rest of the body. Overall though, I feel like I've learned some very useful skills from this exercise, and I feel that with more practice, I could do a lot better in the future.
